Mazagan Hot Yoga

Hot yoga is a series of Hatha Yoga postures practiced in a room heated between 35 – 40 degrees and is suitable for new and advanced practitioners. The sequence of postures is expertly sequenced together so the whole body - internal organs, muscles, joints, ligaments and glands – gets worked out. Nothing is left out! The heat allows the body to detoxify and cleanse through sweating, in addition to making the body more pliable in the postures resulting in restructuring and properly aligning the body.

The postures are easily understood by a beginner but are always challenging, even for advanced yogis!

What Shall I Drink and Eat Before Class?

Just like other forms of exercise, don’t practice on a full or empty stomach! Make sure you have eaten a meal a couple of hours before class. It is very important you have eaten something prior to class so make sure you have had at least a small snack to give you energy.

Drink plenty of water prior to class – come hydrated. Increase your hydration 24hrs prior to class.

What should I wear?

You should wear close-fitting, breathable and lightweight clothing. Avoid baggy clothing. Women: shorts or leggings with a sports top or vest. Men: shorts (t-shirt/vest optional).

Remember that white becomes see through when wet!

How often should I come?

Come as often as you can. Yoga is the type of exercise you can do daily. The more you come, the greater the benefits. The harder the yoga is for you initially, the more you need to do it and the more you are going to benefit from it. Once a week will change your mind, 3 times a week will change your body, 5+ times a week will change your life. WARNING to all addictive personalities - this can become the healthiest addiction you have ever found!

What if I have high blood pressure?

Unstable or high blood pressure responds very quickly to frequent and controlled yoga practice. Initially, when tested a week after your first class you may see a slight rise. By the second week this should be closer to normal and will remain there with regular practice. Speak to your doctor and use common sense, listen to your body, and your teacher! Don’t push too hard initially. Please see the teacher for any further queries or guidance on specific postures.

What if I’m injured, unfit, inflexible, overweight or old?

Then you are in the right place! The most common misconception about yoga is that you need to be flexible and in great shape to even attempt it. It is very uncommon that people begin their yoga practice with perfect health and flexibility. The further you are away from touching your toes (or even seeing your toes), the more benefits you will get from this yoga. All classes are suitable for beginners. If you try the right way and put in 100% effort, you will receive 100% of the benefits the yoga has to offer you. Over time you will lose weight, become more flexible, youthful and toned whilst building your strength and healing old injuries. Participants must be over 16 years old.

Vicky and the team

All yoga classes at Mazagan are taught by experiences, world renowned, professional, qualified yoga instructors. We are able to modify the asanas to accommodate any individuals physical restrictions.
Instructors are led and guides by head instructor and teacher trainer, Vicky Thompson.

Yoga Etiquette and advice

• Please arrive on time, class starts promptly and warm up is essential.
• Come fully hydrated.
• Eat something small an hour or so before practice e.g Banana.
• No talking through practice please.
• Please remove shoes before entering the studio.
• Please do not leave the room during practice as not to disturb others-you are welcome to take rest by sitting or laying down and focus on your breath.
